Mission:
Our mission is to honor history, grow gardens, and cultivate community through ecological stewardship, educational programming, and serving as an accessible green space and community resource.
The Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum (KBGA) is a 47-acre, nonprofit garden that is free and open to the public seven days a week. Located on the site of the former Howell Nurseries, KBGA features walking trails, display gardens, unique & historic horticulture and over two miles of distinctive stone walls and timeless buildings, just five minutes from downtown.
Education Programs:
Student Education – Field Trips / Day trips, Weekend / evening programs, Discovery packs for self-led group visits; weekly literacy program for pre-K
Program Details:
Weekly Preschool Story Thyme, target age: 3-5 (Our weekly preschool program features engaging stories, nature exploration, hands-on gardening, crafts and other activities that nurture the youngest gardeners and their grownups.)
Field trips, target age: K-12 (2 hours of rotational garden based learning that prioritizes senses, inquiry learning, and inclusivity). We offer field trips only during the week and with at least two months notice.
Discovery packs, target age: 3-14 (A checkout-able, free backpack with tools for exploration, field guides, picture books, craft supplies, and other thematic resources that will enliven exploration of the garden.)
Adult workshops, seasonal tree/pollinator walks, annual Fall Festival
Placemaking:
18-raised bed vegetable garden, pollinator meadow and garden, Secret Garden with free little library, seep garden, native orchard
