Mission:

Conserve and Restore Native Fish Populations.

Conservation Fisheries, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Founded in 1986 and incorporated in 1992, CFI is a captive propagation facility dedicated to the preservation of aquatic biodiversity in our streams and rivers. Over the last few decades, we have developed techniques to propagate more than 80 non-game fish species, including some of the most imperiled species in the southeastern United States. We are the first and only private facility in the Southeast to propagate rare, non-game fishes for recovery work.

Our primary goal is to restore fish populations that have been eliminated due to various anthropogenic impacts. We also produce many rare or difficult-to-collect species for other purposes related to aquatic conservation.

Education Programs:

In school - class time or virtual programs, Field Trips (day trips or overnight)

Hatchery Field Trips (k-2, 3-5, 6-8, HS, College). We are working on setting up an official field trip/tour program to get students into our hatchery space. These visits would include a tour of the hatchery and we will discuss a range of topics, generally we will gear the tour towards whatever the class is learning. We also are hoping to create a program to get students out into the streams to snorkel and learn from our staff about the fish we are working to protect. As of now this is something we will work with schools/organizations on setting up on an individual basis but again we do not have an official program. Once we have an official program set-up, information will be posted on our website. As of now, we do not require any fees to set any programs up but we do always welcome donations!

We have done classroom visits and virtual tours, generally for high school and college level students. These visits are usually focused on either fish hatchery work or a number of aquatic ecology topics, depending on what the students are learning in the class we are speaking to. We are working on creating an official program but as of now we do class visits or virtual talks based on our availability when folks reach out to us. Once we have an official program set-up, information will be posted on our website. As of now, we do not require any fees to set any programs up but we do always welcome donations.
